Documents and e-books

Documents

Under “Documents” in the menu you keep files that do not belong to any book: judgments, lecture notes, articles, instructions. EPUB and PDF are allowed, up to 200 MB per file. “Upload” takes several files at once; you can also simply drag them onto the page. Each file shows its progress — waiting, uploading with a percentage, done or failed — and can be cancelled until it is finished.

The page has the tabs “All”, “Favourites” and “Bin”, a search by name and the switch between tiles and list. “New folder” creates a folder; folders can have subfolders, and the path at the top leads back. A document’s menu offers “Open”, “Download”, “Rename”, “Move to …” and “Move to bin”. The star makes a document a favourite — favourites are yours alone, not shared with the other members.

“Open” shows the file in the browser, the way the browser itself displays PDF or EPUB; “Download” saves it to your device. Regalzeile does not have its own reader yet.

Bin

Whatever you move to the bin stays there for 30 days and can be brought back with “Restore”; after that it is deleted for good. If you delete a folder, it disappears together with its subfolders, and all documents in it go to the bin.

E-book for a book

If you also have a book or a magazine as a file, attach it on the item page in the “Copies” section with “Add e-book file”. It becomes a separate copy in the e-book format — the title stays one title, with one reading status and one place in its series. The copy shows file type and size and offers “Open” and “Download”. In the catalogue such a title carries the “e-book” pill, and the “Format” filter shows only e-books or only print.

An e-book copy has no bookcase spot: it does not appear in the plan view, the inbox or the tray, and it does not count towards shelf metres. It cannot be lent or put into circulation. If you remove it, the file is deleted immediately after a confirmation.

Storage

How much space the files take is shown on the “Documents” page and in Settings under your plan: 500 MB on Basic, 5 GB on Plus, 20 GB on Full and for organisations. All files of the library count — documents, e-books and whatever is in the bin. Documents do not count towards the plan’s title limit.
