Connect AI assistants
Regalzeile is an MCP server (Model Context Protocol): AI assistants that speak MCP — Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude on your phone, Claude Code), ChatGPT and others — connect to your library as a connector. The assistant can then search your library, look up items and locations, show loans — and, if you allow it, add books by ISBN, edit them, lend and return them, set the reading status and note wishes. Deleting and rebuilding bookcases stay in the app. The connector is available to libraries on the Plus or Full plan.
For editions and loose-leaf works the assistant reads and sets an item’s edition, work, loose-leaf flag, binders and latest supplement; when looking up an item it names each copy’s building and supplement status. With the “Record supplement” tool (set_supplement_status) it records a copy’s status — chosen by copy number or building; a higher number raises the item’s latest supplement. For circulations the assistant shows the running ones with list_circulations (optionally only the overdue ones), starts one with start_circulation and moves it on with advance_circulation: pass on, skip, confirm the return or cancel. More under Circulation. With the Organisation plan, get_report gives the annual report per location: stock, additions, acquisition value, disposals and loans — for owners and members with access to all collections. More under Reports.
When lending, the assistant also takes the person’s email address; without a due date the library’s default loan period applies. In the list of loans it shows the email, how often a reminder has gone out and any extension.
Connect
The server address is https://regalzeile.ch/api/mcp. Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth connects to it; no client ID or secret is needed, the client registers itself. Using Claude as an example:
- In Claude open Settings, then “Connectors” and “Add custom connector”.
- Enter
https://regalzeile.ch/api/mcpas the address; leave client ID and secret empty. - Sign in to Regalzeile, choose the library and click “Allow”. You’ll receive an email “New connection”.
In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http regalzeile https://regalzeile.ch/api/mcp. Other assistants (such as ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code) ask for the same address; the approval works the same way: sign in, choose the library, “Allow”.
Permissions
The assistant has exactly the permissions of the signed-in person in the chosen library: readers see no prices, no loans and nothing private, and cannot add anything. One library per connection — for a second library, connect Regalzeile a second time.
Disconnect
Under Settings → Connected apps you see every connection with library, permissions and last use; “Disconnect” revokes access immediately. Resetting your password also disconnects everything.
